SAIE&ES is a membership organization that was established for the advancement of the science and practice of ecology and environmental science (encompassing both natural and non-natural sciences), to represent ecologists and environmental scientists, to promote their interests and to uphold the status of the profession of ecology and environmental science.
Some long-standing members of SAIE&ES have questioned the value of the institute, arguing that they receive no real benefits and minimal return on their annual subscription fees. For South Africans there are perhaps alternatives to SAIE&ES, but for other SADC citizens, the Institute offers a unique "home" that is valued. There is a growing interest in SAIE&ES from ecologists and environmental scientists in neighbouring countries, which bodes well for the future.
For the reasons stated above, SAIE&ES is repositioning itself to become a truly southern African body, promoting the interests of ecologists and environmental scientists on a regional level. It is therefore in a state of “transit”. To kick-start the process SAIE&ES has developed a brand new website www.saiees.org

2. Get online and leave a message on our website, by clicking on the “contact us” button;
3. Recruit others by telling them of the website www.saiees.org, and downloading the application form;
4. Respond to specific needs by volunteering as a SAIE&ES ambassador, newsletter editor or SAIE&ES representative;
