Cleaner Production
Whilst it is useful to have a sector focus in a course such as this, it is equally valuable to have a variety of sectors represented (e.g. agriculture, water, health, industry, transport) so that the course-goers can engage each other during group sessions. The realities of life are that people interact with colleagues from other disciplines every day, and that decision making should never be sectoral. Instead, an integrated, intersectoral approach is required. All our courses stress this point and we encourage participants to think cross-sectorally. Issues that are prominent in many of our courses include human health and welfare (especially the combating of HIV/AIDS), water management, waste management and energy efficiency. These issues are relevant whether one is dealing with a factory, a tannery, an irrigation project or a mine, for example. Similarly, we like to emphasise the importance of dealing with cumulative impacts (e.g. water pollution).
